AT A GLANCE

Arts Library is one of the major divisional libraries of Delhi University Library System. It came into being as a separate entity only w.e.f. 1985 when the administrative responsibility of the Arts Library vested over to Dean, Faculty of Arts. It supports the research, academic and teaching programs of the University with the help of books, Journals and other reading materials. Post graduates, M.Phil and Ph.D students, University teachers of 16 Departments of faculty of Arts and Social Sciences as well as College teachers are entitled to have membership of Arts Library. Special Membership is also given to retired teachers and staff of the University of Delhi.

                                                    LAYOUT OF THE LIBRARY

                             Arts Library has four segments located separately.

Ø     The first segment is located in the ground floor of Tutorial Building.

Ø     The second segment is in Central hall and eastern wing of central Library.

Ø     The third segment is Text Book Unit located in the Faculty of Arts building, Room No. 23-28 along with covered area of corridors.

Ø     The fourth segment is Periodical Department located in the right wing of the Central Library.

 

                                           FIRST SEGMENT

It includes:-

ü     Big Reading Hall with 150 seats,

ü     Acquisition/Technical Hall,

ü     Reference Department for oriental languages,

ü     Stack Halls consisting books of Arts Library and Central Library in the subjects (philosophy, psychology, education, geography, history, political sc., economics, sociology, law) and in all Indian languages.

ü     Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) is available in the Reference Department and Technical Hall.

                                                    

SECOND SEGMENT

It includes:-

ü     stack hall (containing books of English literature, linguistics, religion, and general subjects),

ü     circulation counter and

ü     membership section.

 

                          THIRD SEGMENT(Text Book Library)

It includes:-

ü     Stack halls containing textbooks recommended in the course of M.A and M.Phil.

ü     A reading hall with the capacity of about 100 seats.

ü     Circulation counter

 

                          FOURTH SEGMENT(Periodical Section)

                   It includes:-

ü     Stack Hall containing bound  and loose periodicals.

ü     Reading hall.
